Pablo Picasso spent many of his formative years in Barcelona, and even though he was born in Malaga, he thought of himself as a Catalan. The Museu Picasso is a lasting tribute to Picasso's extraordinary breadth of talent; it has 3,000 different pieces, ranging from paintings to ceramics, engravings and drawings. The Picasso works cover some of his earliest paintings, providing a unique appreciation of the way he developed as an artist. Picasso lived in Barcelona from the age of 14 to 23, studying art at his father's art school. He launched his Blue Period in the city which lasted from 1901-1904.
